Description

This course we will explore the basics of film construction with a concerted effort to relate the technical aspects of production to the meaning of the story. Constantly we will ask "why did the director make this choice?" in order to stay connected to this twofold objective. Our main goal will be to gain an understanding of art and film terminology so that a full-length feature film can be viewed and then analyzed based on the cinematography, editing, sound, and narrative standards. We will accomplish this by dedicating at least one class meeting period to each of the aforementioned subject areas. Knowledge will be tested with quizzes, exams, and written assignments.
