Description

Examines the intersection of race, diversity, and media relations. We begin by exploring the definition of race and how it shapes media representation and societal narratives. Through the lens of race and diversity, students will analyze how these factors influence media gatekeepers and coverage. In addition to studying media relations—the strategic process of engaging with journalists—students will learn the art of pitching stories and crafting their own narratives. In a media landscape dominated by rapid news cycles and competing interests, securing journalists’ attention is increasingly challenging. This course equips students with the tools to pitch stories effectively, while also emphasizing the importance of creating and sharing diverse stories. By the end of the course, students will have gained practical skills in media relations and storytelling, with a focus on diversity and inclusion. The course is cross listed with MKTG 331
