Description

How do we define a “revolution”? Who participates, and why? How do revolutions transform societies, cultures, and people’s everyday lives? This course examines revolts and revolutions around the world from the eighteenth century to the present. We will study some of the most famous revolutions in history, from the American, French, and Haitian Revolution to the mass uprisings of decolonization. Using the disciplinary lenses of History and Literature, we will pay specific attention to the literature that both inspired these events and was written in response to them. (IDHP Core Credit; non-IDHP Inquiry Credit: Meaning and Interpretation of Human Experience OR Analysis of the Social World)
