Description

What is your civilization, and how does it shape your identity? Are you Western, East Asian, a member of the Ummah, Orthodox Christian, African, Latino, something else? This seminar will explore the concept of civilizations and how they may impact both our personal outlooks as well as the political, historical, societal systems that we live in. We will examine how civilizations alternatively influence and change each other, sometimes by consensus, and sometimes by clashing with each other. Students will also explore how visual cues and symbols are rooted in these civilizational forms and how these are used to communicate and persuade people to adhere to norms and behaviors.
