Description

Examines the development of the African American community in the United States since emancipation. We will chronologically and thematically explore the process of reconstruction, segregation, disenfranchisement, migration, and urbanization and the rise of African American protest organizations, black nationalism, the Harlem Renaissance, and the modern day civil rights movement. Special attention will be given to the social, economic, political, religious, and cultural forces inside and outside of the African American community that have helped shape the course of African American history. Core: History requirement.
