Description

Special education practicum experiences take place in a public or private school-based environment in which practicum students will be assigned a mentor teacher who already holds certification in special education. The practicum students? primary responsibility is to design, implement and evaluate effective instruction for students with mild to moderate disabilities in the least restrictive environment, in an early, elementary or middle school. In order to accomplish this, the students will also be required to have experiences that allow for effective communication and collaboration with educational partners, such as parents, organizations and advocacy groups. Students are expected to spend from 120-150 hours depending on past background and experience. Placements are arranged in collaboration with the student and selected sites. Permission of the instructor is required. Practicum includes a seminar experience. Summer programs that offer academic as well as other supports are appropria
