Description

This course will focus on global awareness and issues. Global awareness is an appreciation of the connections and interrelationships among individuals, peoples, institutions, and countries. Such awareness is based on an understanding of the impact of economic, environmental, and technological processes and concerns on political and social issues. Global awareness will enable students to analyze competing perspectives on various global issues and to take part in current debates on how to solve many of the world problems facing humankind today.
Global issue is an issue that emerges from and gains salience through the growing interconnectedness of peoples and countries around the world. Examples would include: global warming, resource depletion, the rich-poor gap, human rights, the "clash" of civilizations, the pace and reach of technological change, global terrorism, migration, the impact of lending and trading practices and many others.
