Psychopathology (PSYG 503)

This course explores the emotional, cognitive, somatic, and behavioral symptoms of mental disturbance. Students will be-come acquainted with the subjective experience of various symptoms and symptom clusters, patterns of family and com-munity responses to afflicted individuals, and research and evolving theories pertaining to the etiology of symptoms. Stu-dents will also be introduced to the use of the DSM-5 as a format for the classification of disorders and the choice of appro-priate treatment. Students will acquire a working knowledge of the DSM-5 and will develop the ability to diagnose various mental disorders. Prerequisite: PSYG 500, or may be taken concurrently with PSYG 500.
