Description

This course focuses largely on criminal defense for the disadvantaged (e.g., the racially or socioeconomically disadvantaged) in contemporary American society. However, the course is broader than simply being a course about criminal defense. It also focuses on philosophical questions of justice concerning the disadvantaged in the United States, as well as on philosophical questions about why we have the current criminal justice system that we have in the United States. Finally, the course will focus some on the philosophical disagreements between natural law theorists, on the one hand, and legal positivists, on the other hand.
