Description

This year-long art history and history team-taught seminar looks at five crucial moments when America marked its Independence: 1826, 1876, 1926, 1976, 2026. Each of these half-century markings of American Independence will help us to explore important paradigm shifts (or how Americans viewed themselves and their world), by providing six "spools" about which to spin threads and weave fabrics of remembrance that display social, artistic, literary, technological, political, and historical themes, among others. Such explorations will necessarily include people, expressions, and events that were significant during some years on either side of these half-century markings.
