Description

Students will read from a wide array of literary and eco-critical sources that offer a theoretical framework within which to explore representations of nature in literature and the interrlatedness of nature and humanity. Concepts to be explored include: wilderness, frontier, exploitation of the environment, sustainability, and an ethical (i.e. earth-centered) understanding of what it means to live “with” rather than simply “on” earth. Core: Literature requirement. Prerequisite: LADS-120 or IDHP-210.
