Description

This course presents future teachers with the study of child development from adolescence to young adulthood. Students will learn about all aspects of adolescent development: physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and cultural. An emphasis is placed on identity development and motivation as related to teaching and learning. The course presents a holistic view of adolescent development through an exploration of contemporary theories of children in this age group. Research methods in the study of adolescent development and healthy human psychological development relevant to teaching and learning are also included. Stage I field experiences are embedded in this course and are linked to PDE field competencies. Evidence of field competencies are demonstrated in unit and lesson planning, and reflected through initial portfolio development. Students must have current PA clearances on the first day of class. Core: Social Sciences requirement.
