Description

Prepares pre-service teachers to implement research and strategies that support integrating the creative arts across content areas. There is an emphasis on the design and implementation of early literacy curricula, with a specific focus on writing instruction and assessment for learners in grades PreK-4. The course aims to increase pre-service teachers’ ability to plan and implement lessons that encourage critical and creative thinking and writing as part of an arts integrated approach to learning. This course highlights the importance of integrating the arts across the curriculum resulting in deep learning and increased student engagement that is culturally responsive and is relevant in students’ lives. Learning how to establish an environment where calculated risk taking is encouraged and varied ideas are accepted is a key aspect of the course. Lesson plan development is aligned with PA Early Childhood Education Standards, PA Core English Language Arts Standards, NAEYC Standards, and
