Description

This course prepares middle level educators for modern science instruction. Discussion and activities relate concepts and theories to learning experiences that emphasize the significance of active engagement in learning. This course provides an overview of the teaching techniques and materials used in contemporary middle level science programs with a focus on inquiry skills and inductive and deductive reasoning through hands-on and minds-on investigations. Students explore the integrated processes of formulating hypotheses, naming and controlling variables, making operational definitions, conducting experiments, interpreting data and engaging in investigative and problem-solving processes. This course includes major strands of science: life science, physical science, earth and space science, and connects with the curricula of ELA, social sciences, and the arts.
