Description

Students investigate the theories and practices of writing as a modality of learning. Students will write and learn how to teach writing in narrative, informational/expository, and persuasive genres as well as in poetry. Through the use of writing rubrics and subsequent diagnostic evaluation of student writing, students will learn how to support middle level learners in becoming quality writers as required by PA Core Academic Standards for writing across disciplinary areas. Although writing is the primary focus, it cannot be separated from the language modalities of reading, speaking, listening, and thinking critically. Therefore, connections with language arts will be consistent. Lesson plans will address the specific PA Core Academic Standards for writing across content areas.
