Description

The first semester of a two-semester introduction to the principles of organic chemistry. Focuses on the structure of organic compounds and how that structure determines reactivity. Topics include reaction mechanisms, microchemistry, and functional groups. Analytical methods include gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy. Three hours per week. Core: Natural Sciences requirement. Prerequisite: CHEM-132 with a grade of C- or better. Corequisite CHEM-215L.
