Description

Explores possibilities and challenges inherent in engaging human diversity in human services settings, with attention to the impact of structural inequalities based on race/ethnicity, religion, sex/gender, sexual orientation, age, abilities/ disabilities, socio-economic status, and other cultural markers. The course will provide opportunities for students to appreciate diverse cultural traditions, especially cultures with which course participants identify and cultures of vulnerable populations who have histories of oppression. Opportunities will be provided for students to understand apparently personal problems as public issues that indicate needs for social change.
